To The Members Of Our Family
Recently, a colleague was sharing the myriad challenges offered by our changing world. The discussion that followed gave clarity and conviction to my understanding of ECF and why our 66-year-old organization has thrived and become a preeminent provider of comprehensive services for children, youths and adults living well with developmental, emotional and learning disabilities. For six and a half decades, ECF has developed and maintained a culture that encourages and embraces change. To do otherwise will inevitably result in extinction. It's a principle that is as old as time itself. It is recommended, however, that change occur by developing and employing thoughtful plans that consider the environment, an awareness of your areas of strength and weakness (we all have both), and a vision of your position in the future. To effectively implement the mission at ECF, we believe performing responsible strategic planning on a regular basis is essential. Before crafting our current three-year plan that commenced with the fiscal year starting July 1, 2011, we devoted eight months to complete internal and external analysis of the factors affecting the lives of the people we serve, our employees, the communities we serve throughout LA County, and the programs we offer. We also reviewed and con rmed our organization's core values and our vision for the future. Information gleaned from these efforts has encouraged the establishment of our service priorities and the following three-year strategic goals and objectives. From July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2014, ECF will drive results in four key areas: • Strengthen our organization's infrastructure to ensure continued operational eff ectiveness and to prepare us to pursue strategic growth and development opportunities that advance our mission. • Offer a comprehensive spectrum of services (birth through senior years), and expand our impact by 50%. • Strengthen our financial position commensurate with our expansion. • Increase the public's awareness of our work and the people we serve. To support the ambitious change we strive to achieve and to motivate our progress, 23 measureable, time-sensitive objectives have been developed. In future communications (from our website, newsletters and annual reports, and personalized letters to our supporters), we will share exciting developments at ECF and how the changes we are making are adding value to our changing world. Sincerely, Scott D. Bowling, Psy.D.
