Early Start
Ninety percent of a child's brain growth occurs in the first three years of life. During these critical early years, windows of opportunity open, and sometimes close, for cirtical learning in sensory development, language acquisition, and emotional and mental health. A stimulating learning environment, a sense of security and belonging, and positive parent-child interactions are essential for the healthy development and "wiring" of a young child's brain. Recognizing the tremendous opportunity afforded by these early learning years, Early Start provides comprehensive, high-quality early intervention services for ECF's littlest clients and their families. From warm, family-friendly sites in Arleta, Lomita, and South Central Los Angeles, Early Start offers both center-based and home visit services for infants and tolddlers who are developmentally delayed, multiply handicapped, or "at risk."
Given the important role parents can play in promoting a child's healthy development, Early Start includes an extensive family support program, including parent participation and education, weekly parent support groups, crisis intervention, individual family counseling, social work support, medical consultation, a family resource center, and on-site family emergency pantries. Through these coordinated services and the strong partnership with families, Early Start is giving our littlest clients the most enduring and precious gift of all-a brighter future! |
